It was a good weekend…really good. Our High School lacrosse team took the State Championship on Saturday. Maybe you remember that my husband coaches that team, and that my two daughters play on that team. It was awesome. But totally nerve wracking. A close game…too close. My heart was beating overtime for the entire hour and a half. In fact, by the time it was finished it felt like I had run a marathon, and I sat on the bench the whole time!! After it was all over, after both teams went home, after we unpacked the balls and equipment and I settled in to plant the petunias that had been waiting for playoffs to end, Meg came out to chat.
"What do you think?" I asked her. "Is it your best day so far?"
She smiled and then said, "It's funny mom. All day long I start going about my regular stuff and then I stop and remind myself you are a champion!"
I won't forget her smile.
It was a few minutes later that I walked upstairs to check on Grace who was making a team video for the celebration. The song she chose to put with all of the photos? "We are the champions."
That they had done a great thing.
You know, the same is true of you.
Today as you go about the ordinary moments of your day maybe you could stop and remind yourself that God has a great work in store for you.
Because you are extraordinary.
You are destined for remarkable things.
There is a spark of greatness in you.
"We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking… We are all meant to shine… We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone." (Marianne Williamson)
Be a champion.
He needs you.
