THIS IS MY JOY

AND MY GREAT REJOICING

A Daily Journey

Screenshot 2014-08-10 23.48.30 Summer is coming to an end.

We are stocking up on supplies, cleaning out closets, talking about schedules.

I don't know about you, but this time of year forces out the responsibility in me.  I come at it struggling.  Kicking against the pricks.

I hate alarm clocks.

Setting aside an hour of our evenings for homework.

Going to bed on time.

Perhaps it is because I am in love with August nights.  The last of the summer sun warming up the evenings. The lackadaisical nature of it all.  The spontaneous walking to Lucky's for a snow cone, sitting out talking to the neighbors, knowing that tomorrow I will be able to sleep in.

For the record, every year the August nights come to an end and responsibility always wins.  I conform.  And as I set the familiar fall patterns into place something begins to happen.  I feel a need to set goals.  To organize my life.  There is something about fall that makes me want to establish a pattern of learning for myself.

Maybe you feel the same?

So we have been talking.

About goals.  Organizing.  Learning.

Our conversation has been ongoing over the summer.  What will we study on the blog this year?

Friends chimed in.

Ideas started to form.

And finally…we came up with an idea that I am super excited about.

Daily Devotionals:  Powerful One-Liners from the Scriptures.

How about that?

I am getting excited just thinking about it.

We will start these daily devotionals on August 18.

Their purpose?  To lift your heart, give you courage, strengthen your faith.  But even more important…these devotionals will give us the opportunity to open our scriptures for a few minutes every single day.

As always, you will find the devotionals here daily.  But we are also going to try something new.  You can follow us on Instagram at dailyclosertochrist.

I am going to leave this post up all week to make sure everyone gets a chance to see it.  And I am giving you an invitation:  enjoy every single second of these last summer days.

In one week we will begin our new journey.

So enjoy summer.

If you have to, stock up.  Clean out.  Organize.

And, in the process, prepare your heart for the journey ahead.  The learning.  The devotionals.  The power.

Invite your friends to join us if they would like.

See you back here on August 18!
