A General Conference Wall
I hope you won't mind if I share a conference tradition with you. It's an after Conference tradition.
In our family we have a General Conference Wall.
It is a wall in our home where I have hung one frame for each member of our family. As we listen to each session of Conference we each try to find one quote that we want to work on for the next six months.
Maybe it seems crazy to you that we just focus on one quote, but it is a tradition we have had for many years. It is less overwhelming. And amazing as it seems, there is always one overriding principle that stands out to me each Conference. Interestingly none of us have ever picked the same quote.
Over the weeks and months those quotes become part of who we are. By the end of six months they are written on our heart. Permanently.
The first Family Home Evening after Conference we type out our quotes and hang them on the wall. My boys know to send them home from their mission in their Monday morning email.
The wall is the last thing we pass by on our way out of our home, and the first thing we see on our way back in.
This General Conference wall is a reminder of who we want to become.
The quote I chose for the next six months is from Elder Eyring...
"We are under covenant both to lift up those in need and to be witnesses of the Savior as long as we live.
We will only be able to do it without fail as we feel love for the Savior and his love for us.
As we are faithful to the promises we have made, we will feel our love for him. It will increase because we will feel his power and drawing near to us in his service." (Saturday Morning Session)
I have decided to try an experiment for the next six months.
Every day I want to do one of two things:
1. Express my love for the Savior through my actions. 2. Recognize His love for me through His tender mercies and kindnesses.
I want to live the covenant to lift and to witness. I want to recognize His power. I want to feel Him drawing near.
This is one quote I hope to become.
