"You want to be good and to do good. That is commendable. But the greatest achievement that can be reached in our lives is to be under the complete influence of the Holy Ghost. Then he will teach us what is really good and necessary to do."
F. Enzio Busche
Last night I heard Noelle Pikus Pace speak.
Her story was phenomenal. She spoke of pushing through the setbacks over and over again until she finally won the Olympic Medal that had been her dream all along.
It was a great achievement.
I was impressed by her dedication and devotion to fulfill that which she had set out in the first place to do.
She wanted to do good. To be good. From the very beginning.
But that wasn't the most intriguing part of her story. What was the most fascinating to me was that her great achievement wasn't accomplished through just practice, and diligence, and form.
It came because of prayer, following promptings, and holding onto her beliefs.
It was through prayer and listening to the Spirit that she understood what was really good and necessary to do to accomplish that great achievement.
The same is true for each of us.
The Lord has great things in store for us. Achievements that will allow us to do good and to be good. But in order to accomplish them we will need to learn what it means to be under the complete influence of the Holy Ghost.
It is worth considering the word complete…
Total. Entire. Full. To the greatest extent or degree.
I can't help but wonder if I am living my life like that…and it causes me to reflect deep.
I want to do good. I want to be good. I want to accomplish the greatest achievement that can be reached in my life.
And I can't do that on my own.
It will require Heaven's help. It will require listening to the Spirit. He will teach me what is really good and necessary to do.
Accomplishing this will require me to do things different. Instead of jumping in and rushing forward bull headed I will need to pause. To pray. To ponder.
So he can teach me.
What is good.
What is necessary.
Complete Influence…that is my goal.
