THIS IS MY JOY

AND MY GREAT REJOICING

He Knows

D&C Lesson 4

Right when he turned the key he knew he had made a mistake.

The engine, which had been working perfectly moments before, wouldn't run.

Bad gas.  Well, the wrong kind of gas, which is bad.  The mistake welled right up in all of our guts...we were sick about it.  We weren't quite sure what to do.

But Grandpa Ralph knew "...seen this before."

"Gonna have to empty out the bad gas.  Tip it over.  Empty it out."

He watched the process...overseeing the whole event.  You can see him there in every picture.  At the end, he made sure the filter was all cleaned out.  Purified.

Then, after the purging, and the purifying, and the instructing he watched over once again to make sure this time things would be right.

In this week's Sunday School study guide we learn about making mistakes.

Joseph Smith had one of those moments...I wonder if the worry of it welled right up in his gut.  How do you recover lost manuscript pages? What was he to do?

The Lord knew.

There would have to be purging, and purifying, and instructing.  But He watched over the process.  And then, after the purging, and the purifying, and the instructing He watched over once again to make sure this time things would be right.

All was not lost.

Why?

"...the Lord knoweth all things from the beginning; wherefore, he prepareth a way to accomplish all his works...for behold, he hath all power unto the fulfilling of all his words...and thus it is." 1 Nephi 9:6

I wonder if Joseph's heart swelled with gratitude the first time he read that verse in the Book of Mormon.  It is one of my favorite scriptures.  The promise is one I have held onto many times in my life...in times of discouragement, doubt, or disappointment.  On more than one occasion I have written it down and posted it where it would be a constant reminder in my day.  The Lord knows all things.  He prepareth a way.  He hath all power.

And thus it is.

Deliberate Discipleship:

One of the greatest comforts when things go wrong is knowing there is someone who can help guide you through, give instruction, watch over.  Is there something you are struggling with right now?  Remember...the Lord knoweth all things.  He prepareth a way.  He hath all power.  Turn to Him today...He will know how to help you through.
