THIS IS MY JOY

AND MY GREAT REJOICING

In a State to Act

Alma 12:8 - Alma 14:3

This morning I went for a walk with my mom.

As we walked she told me about a lesson that she taught last night.  At the end of the lesson she asked three important questions:

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How do you need to act to become that person?

She had her class write the answer to all three of those questions in their journal.

I didn't stop thinking about that all day.  I know the person I want to be...I think about it a lot.  Particularly in the moments when I am not exactly who I want to be.

But I have never taken the time to write it down.  I have never made a plan of action so that I might daily practice becoming the person I want to be.

I love the scripture found in Alma 12:31, "placing themselves in a state to act..."

What I realized after talking with my mom this morning is that I need to place myself in a state to act...and that is going to require visualizing, and goal setting, and writing down...and then acting.

Words can be motivating.

Sometimes one simple word can act as a catalyst for change.

Even a small phrase can prompt action.

Today my challenge is simply this...sit down for a few minutes and answer those three questions.

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How do you need to act to become that person?

Then find a word or a phrase that you can hang on your refrigerator, or your mirror, or the dashboard of your car and place yourself in a state to act.

Perhaps it would help if I shared some action words or phrases that I like...

Who are you?

Who do you want to be?

How do you need to act to become that person?
